Someone in book group also mentioned the film with Kenneth Branagh.

I was so pleased when I remembered the book box :) hopefully I will stick to actually reading what I draw.Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17782561487396697870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-81157226008246257462013-08-17T16:15:49.628-05:002013-08-17T16:15:49.628-05:00Sounds like a terrific book--I find Shackleton'...Sounds like a terrific book--I find Shackleton's expedition to be incredibly interesting. I've seen a few documentaries, plays, and an exhibit on it, but haven't read this book. Would like to.

I absolutely love your way of dealing with that TBR pile. I have made good inroads on mine, thanks to a challenge, but I like the randomness of drawing a number out of a book. Very apt :)JaneGShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11094501834387622997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-62224812003924503382013-08-16T20:53:30.463-05:002013-08-16T20:53:30.463-05:00Anbolyn, I had the same thought! The author does address that, and he credits Shackleton and some of the other officers for keeping the crew physically & mentally healthy much of the time. At one point Shackleton was giving bridge lessons, and they all went mad for bridge!Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17782561487396697870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-9684237531079383032013-08-16T00:15:58.735-05:002013-08-16T00:15:58.735-05:00I really think I would have had a nervous breakdow...I really think I would have had a nervous breakdown in their situation. Does the book address the crew's mental health at all? I just can't imagine being stranded! This sounds like a fascinating story and the animal stuff wouldn't bother me if I knew that it was in the efforts of survival.Anbolynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10080054175904900094noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-28844404797731366662013-08-15T21:41:20.956-05:002013-08-15T21:41:20.956-05:00elizabeth, I've read a lot of travel accounts,...elizabeth, I've read a lot of travel accounts, but only a few about exploration, and those were more about the Age of Exploration. This is the first I've read about polar exploration. I'll have to look for John Franklin, after I've recovered from this one :)Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17782561487396697870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-42113388367726591882013-08-15T19:46:52.029-05:002013-08-15T19:46:52.029-05:00I'm fascinated with this kind of harrowing voy...I'm fascinated with this kind of harrowing voyage (even though I hate the part about the animals too).
