I never really paid attention to the prize lists before I started blogging - I'll expect to see this one on some lists next year.Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17782561487396697870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-5298003841298650102012-11-05T12:36:51.695-06:002012-11-05T12:36:51.695-06:00I'd love to read this, but there is a huge wai...I'd love to read this, but there is a huge waiting list for it at my library - even on the electronic versions! I'm glad such a good author is getting the attention of readers.

I was looking at the Orange Prize lists of nominees the other day and was reminded that Attica Locke was long listed for her first book back in 2010.Anbolynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10080054175904900094noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-65867566912302091092012-11-05T06:10:27.971-06:002012-11-05T06:10:27.971-06:00Alex, I always have to read series books in order ...Alex, I always have to read series books in order myself. Though these are stand-alones, I'll be interested to compare the two, and also to hear what you think.Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17782561487396697870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-63895691648476200532012-11-05T02:45:22.845-06:002012-11-05T02:45:22.845-06:00I heard Locke talking about this on a podcast rece...I heard Locke talking about this on a podcast recently and was intrigued. However, not having read her first novel I thought I would start with that (I always prefer to read my way through an author's works chronologically) and it's just turned up from the library. Reading this I shall move it to the top of the pile so that I can get on to the new one all the quicker.Alexhttp://thinkinginfragments.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-38485903244453456782012-11-04T07:16:52.242-06:002012-11-04T07:16:52.242-06:00Thanks for another great recommendation! and I agr...Thanks for another great recommendation! and I agree, it's nice to be in on the start of her career, though it does mean waiting for books :)Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17782561487396697870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-87574903547002080942012-11-04T06:26:44.180-06:002012-11-04T06:26:44.180-06:00I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed this so mu...I'm really glad to hear you enjoyed this so much. I agree about the descriptions of the setting. That was really well-done. And isn't it great to find a good crime writer right at the start of her career?Teresahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09896331683344872038noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-62289006469203585182012-11-04T05:33:10.234-06:002012-11-04T05:33:10.234-06:00Pam, "Delta setting" immediately makes m...Pam, "Delta setting" immediately makes me think of Eudora Welty - though it's been a long time since I've read her books. The setting here also reminded me of James Lee Burke's mysteries - I think those were the first books set in Louisiana that I'd ever read (now I find the violence too much).

Cat, I remember hearing very good things about her first book - it got a lot of buzz here with its Houston setting (not too many books are set here, for some reason). I've added it to my library list.Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17782561487396697870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-47696344552646921062012-11-03T18:34:20.912-05:002012-11-03T18:34:20.912-05:00Thanks for bringing this to my attention. The review of this book is enough to encourage me to see if our local library has it. I really enjoy descriptions from that area around the Mississippi delta and the south.
