I think One Fine Day sounds like a very lovely novel and one that I would certainly enjoy. I had started Mrs. Craven at some point, and set it aside - I need to get back to those stories.Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17782561487396697870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-44632164694371752632014-01-31T22:50:26.072-06:002014-01-31T22:50:26.072-06:00Green in tooth and claw is such a wonderful descri...Green in tooth and claw is such a wonderful description. I have started to read this but it opened with a big landscape description scene, which always makes me go 'meh', so I put it down again. Obviously I am an idiot! (Esp. as I loved her short stories and have London War Notes out from the library. I should know better. ;-))skiourophilehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08200877834536477400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-8286874331489003582014-01-30T19:21:28.120-06:002014-01-30T19:21:28.120-06:00Jenny, I had the same reaction when I first heard ...Jenny, I had the same reaction when I first heard about London War Notes! I got it pretty quickly through ILL - but then they wanted it back pretty quickly too.

JoAnn, I put all my library reserves on hold, because I really felt like trying to clear off the TBR stacks. That will probably change in February when I'm craving something completely new (the TBR books can almost seem familiar when I've been staring at them for years!) But I do have one for book group to pick up on Saturday.

Alex, I need to find out if I can get the War Notes again. I've just been embarrassed to ask. The DNB entry also mentioned a couple of her other books that sound interesting.Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17782561487396697870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-60676229508353409612014-01-30T14:27:30.015-06:002014-01-30T14:27:30.015-06:00I read this when I was far too young to appreciate...I read this when I was far too young to appreciate it but your review makes me think that perhaps the time has come to revisit her work. I will also keep an eye out for those London War Notes, which sound fascinating.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-73443968778591586562014-01-30T08:09:06.924-06:002014-01-30T08:09:06.924-06:00Your comparison to Angela Thirkell got my attentio...Your comparison to Angela Thirkell got my attention! Good Evening Mrs. Craven is on my shelf...it's definitely time to read Mollie Panter-Downes.

I seem to be distracted by so many shiny, new titles lately. A group of 4 library holds came in all at once (holds placed before the TBR Dare) so I'll probably read a couple of those before returning to my shelves.JoAnnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13691864361197071517noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-40391045991104592142014-01-30T07:15:57.803-06:002014-01-30T07:15:57.803-06:00Oo, now I want London War Notes! (I feel obscurely guilty using ILL for my personal pleasure, even though I know that's what it's there for.) Panter-Downes sounds great!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
