I've enjoyed reading all of your comments on Twitter even though I didn't know what you were talking about. :-) I might join in on the Pallisers with you all - I think I own most of them.Anbolynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10080054175904900094noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-80350255702620608822015-10-18T21:35:43.400-05:002015-10-18T21:35:43.400-05:00I wasn't thinking so much of Lily in her sadne...I wasn't thinking so much of Lily in her sadness as in her happiness. She's very contained in her grief - I worried about her a bit then. And I certainly agree she shouldn't rush into an engagement with someone else, and much as I love Johnny Eames, I don't think he's the right man for her, even after he outgrows his hobbledehoyhood (and of course he still has some growing to do). I also have a soft spot for Crosbie, he's such a "grass is greener" type, and he has no friend to talk sense to him.Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17782561487396697870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-40392601615246818682015-10-18T21:32:46.292-05:002015-10-18T21:32:46.292-05:00Oh, Mr Palliser. I can't believe people could build so much gossip on two-sentence conversations!

I will have to think about your theory :) It certainly is the supporting characters who stick more in my mind, Mr Harding and Plantagenet being exceptions.Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17782561487396697870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-74399449761984584842015-10-18T21:30:15.211-05:002015-10-18T21:30:15.211-05:00For me, that's always the dilemma with Trollop...For me, that's always the dilemma with Trollope, Katrina. I still have so many of his books to read, but then I love re-reading my favorites. And some I don't remember that well, so I want to read them again - like Rachel Ray.Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17782561487396697870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-8729158741896350882015-10-18T17:40:19.557-05:002015-10-18T17:40:19.557-05:00I love this book. I don't think she shares Marianne's excessive emotions - indeed, Lily seems to keep her true feelings about all these goings on to herself most of the time, even when her family wants her to confide in them and cry with them - but she is certainly not sensible enough for my tastes! Though if sense would dictate a marriage to Johnny Eames, I'm not sure I'd feel sensible either. He's a nice young man but hardly the stuff of maidenly dreams - especially given his shoddy treatment of Amelia Roper. I have a soft spot for Crosbie and have to say that most of my sympathy was with him. He made a very poor choice but he certainly paid for it. It has been so much fun to read and re-read these with you and the others, and I can't wait till we bring it home with The Last Chronicle... (until we start with the Pallisers, of course). And speaking of Plantagenet P, that scene where he and Lady Dumbello are behaving improperly at Courcy Castle was priceless, simply priceless. :)Audreyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14912114716426828436noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-28926557570792916442015-10-18T13:59:57.449-05:002015-10-18T13:59:57.449-05:00I remember that I didn't enjoy this one much w...I remember that I didn't enjoy this one much when I first read it and I'm quite relieved that you didn't like it so much too - it wasn't just me. I wonder if I would like it better on a second reading, but I have so many others of his to read, I don't know if I'll ever get around to a re-read.Katrinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18138715309807238198noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1203893324932668537.post-64012918109578049422015-10-18T13:28:08.551-05:002015-10-18T13:28:08.551-05:00I do think it must have been Lily - though I find ...I do think it must have been Lily - though I find her even more annoying in The Last Chronicle, and I love that book.
